Ankle Instability

The foot is our first point of contact when performing weight bearing activities.  It is a comprised of multiple joints, that work in unison to absorb forces, and keep us balanced.  If the joints of the ankle/foot are loose, from repetitive overstretching or congenitally, one tends to be at risk for abnormal joint wear (potentially leading to arthritis) or injury.  Patients often report the feeling of unstable ankles, or ankles that roll easily.  It is important to evaluate the cause(s) of the instability and address each to prevent significant injury. Here at Portland Physical Therapy we perform comprehensive evaluations that indicate which structures are impaired, which allows us to develop the appropriate plan of care.
