Dupuytren's Contracture

Dupuytren’s contracture is the name for scar tissue formation of the flexor tendons in the hand.  The scarring can create nodules in the hand, or it can progress causing the tendons to shorten or become stuck as you attempt to open the hand.  This can sometimes be addressed with conservative treatments, but if the scar tissue is significant enough, surgical intervention may be required to remove the tissue to allow for fluid movement. Often times after the procedure, it will be important to regain normal movements and function of the hand.  Our physical therapist have treated many hand ailments, including Dupuytren’s contractures, and have developed a good understanding of the intricacies of the hand and how to rehab them successfully.
