Elbow Fracture/Olecranon Fracture

The olecranon (point of elbow)  is often hit during a fall, which can result in a fracture.  If the fracture causes the bone to break into multiple pieces, a surgeon may be required to surgically repair the elbow.  Surgery, or even just a fracture, is usually followed by a period of immobilization.  This can lead to extreme joint hypomobility, decreased range of motion, weakness, and inability to perform activities of daily living. Once your surgeon releases you to physical therapy, we will work on the impairments found during the assessment and get you back to your optimal health.  The early phases are focused on regaining normal range of motion and muscle activation.  This will be progressed to strength training, and functional movements for the elbow and upper extremity.

Associated Symptoms:

  • Elbow pain
  • Decrease range of motion
  • Joint Stiffness
  • Swelling
  • Weakness
  • Muscle Atrophy
