Finger Dislocation

If a finger has become dislocated, it means the articulating surface of the bones have become displaced from one another.  One should seek immediate medical attention to make sure there were no fractures or soft tissue tears, and to have the joint reduced.  As the soft tissue (joint capsule, tendons and ligaments) attempts to heal, scar tissue (collagen fibers) can be laid down, limiting range of motion and use.  It is important to allow for the healing to occur, but to make sure you regain your range of motion and strength.  Our physical therapist is trained in advanced manual therapy techniques to improve range of motion and allow for return to function.

Associated Symptoms:

  • Misshapened joint (prior to reduction)
  • Pain
  • Swelling
  • Limited range of motion
  • Weakness with grip
