Plantar Fasciitis

The plantar fascia is dense connective tissue that runs from the bottom of the heel to the metatarsal heads (pads of the feet), which helps to support the arch of the foot.  The plantar fascia can become irritated and inflamed from repetitive stress to the arch of the foot, causing pain.  The pain is usually located near the heel of the foot and along the arch, and is made worse with standing, walking and pressure on the bottom of the foot.  There are often associated impairments with surrounding structures, and biomechanical issues that can lead to the development of plantar fasciitis.  Our physical therapist will identify the structures involved and prescribe the appropriate therapies to reduce symptoms, and improve mechanics.

Associated Symptoms:

  • Heel/arch pain
  • Pain worse upon standing in morning
  • Pain with standing/walking
  • Swelling in foot
