CAPS
The Comprehensive Assessment of Postural Systems (CAPS) allows us to take a detailed look at our patient’s ability to maintain balance and their ability to correct for balance perturbations. We use this system to assess our patients for fall risk, gait abnormalities, post injury, concussions, lower back pain, lower extremity weakness, and general balance impairments. A person’s ability to recover from perturbation quickly is one of the most important aspects of fall prevention. Slowed reaction time is one of the major impairments seen in the aging population that leads to increased fall risk. The CAPS system gives us detailed objective measures, which allows us to create an individualized plan of care to target each patient's impairments.
