Cervical Fusion
A cervical fusion is a technique used to prevent two or more of the cervical vertebrae from moving independently of one another. This is usually performed because there is significant arthritic changes, severe degenerative disc disease with subsequent spinal stenosis, or because there is an unstable recurrent disc herniation affecting the nerves. The procedure includes disruption of cervical musculature, and a period of rest that can lead to stiffness, and muscle weakness within the neck. Our skilled physical therapist has advanced training in treating the spine, including treating post surgical neck procedures. It is important to reduce your symptoms, while regaining mobility and activation of the deep cervical stabilizers for return to normal activity.
