Elbow Dislocation
The elbow joint is made up of three bones, and three articulations. A dislocation can occur from the more common radial head dislocation, or ulnar dislocation. If you think you have suffered a dislocation, you should first be assessed by a physician before seeking physical therapy. A dislocation often causes damage to the surrounding tissue including: muscles, tendons, ligaments and joint capsule. There is often a period of immobilization, which can cause joint stiffness and atrophy (wasting) of the musculature. For these reasons, it is important to regain full range of motion of the involved joints, and to strengthen the surrounding tissue once permitted. It is our goal to assess which impairments our patients have, and come up with an individualized program to correct and improve function.
